Mode Use Propensity by Attitudinal and Spatial Cluster: An Exploratory Analysis

Par Antonio PAEZ, professeur, School of Geography and Earth Sciences, McMaster University

***Cette conférence se déroulera en anglais***

In this seminar, I present recent research that considers the propensity of using different modes of transportation in a university sample. The sample is segmented in two different ways. First, making use of a set of attitudinal questions, a k-modes clustering algorithm is applied. This algorithm reveals four attitudinal clusters, characterized by their views on travel, transit and cars, and community. These groups have significantly different propensities to use four modes: car, active travel, local transit, and regional transit. Further, spatial analysis of the attitudinal cluster types reveals that these groups tend to form geographical groups. By examining propensity to travel by different attitudinal clusters in each of these separate regions, some insights are derived into the adaptability of users to adopt various modes of transportation in different spatial contexts.

Cette conférence ouverte à tous aura lieu le jeudi 20 avril 2017 à midi, au local FAS-1613.
